Kentucky’s My Old Kentucky Home State Park Undergoes $4M Campground Renovation

My Old Kentucky Home State Park’s campground in Bardstown is undergoing a $4 million transformation as part of the New Kentucky Home initiative, aimed at enhancing visitor experiences. Gov. Andy Beshear signed the legislation, marking a significant step toward modernizing the state’s parks.

The funding, drawn from a $40 million allocation approved by the Kentucky General Assembly during the 2024 legislative session, highlights the state’s commitment to revitalizing its outdoor recreational facilities.

The renovation includes 39 full-service campsites, featuring eight pull-through sites, and the construction of a modern bathhouse. The project, expected to be completed by late summer 2025, underscores Kentucky’s broader goal of aligning state park amenities with national standards for outdoor hospitality.

“These $4 million in upgrades at My Old Kentucky Home State Park’s campground reflect our dedication to upgrading experiences at our state parks, giving Kentuckians and visitors from across the country and around the world even more reasons to visit the commonwealth,” Kentucky State Parks Commissioner Russ Meyer said, as reported by The Lane Report on January 21.

“The improvements will help bring My Old Kentucky Home into the New Kentucky Home era. We look forward to continuing our progress in updating Parks facilities across the commonwealth,” Meyer added.

My Old Kentucky Home State Park serves as a hub for travelers exploring Bardstown’s rich history and culture. The upgrades will not only enhance the camping experience but also support local tourism by encouraging longer stays and repeat visits.

This project is one of 30 campground renovations included in the statewide improvement plan, which covers updates like electrical and water systems, expanded sewer access, and upgraded roadways.

Located at 501 E. Stephen Foster Avenue, the park also offers a variety of attractions, including a historic mansion, gardens, an amphitheater, and an 18-hole golf course.

Hourly guided tours of the mansion, limited to groups of 25, are available Wednesday through Sunday during winter months.
