The Kentucky Department of Parks has launched a new mobile app designed to improve visitor experiences across the state’s 44 parks, providing digital maps, curated experiences, and offline access for the first time.
According to a press release, the free app, powered by OuterSpatial, offers up-to-date information on recreational opportunities, hiking trails, events, and other park resources.
“From hiking, activities, golf and more, our Kentucky State Parks are a great place to visit, and this free app will help make it easier for families to enjoy,” said Gov. Andy Beshear.
“If you haven’t visited one of our 44 Kentucky State Parks in a while, this new app and passport challenge is a great reason to plan a stay,” Andy added.
“We’re excited to finally have a mobile app that will give Kentuckians and visitors a better way to explore the incredible range of parks across our state,” said Kentucky State Parks Commissioner Russ Meyer.
“From hiking and camping to cultural events and family outings, this app brings it all together in one reliable and easy-to-use place,” Russ added.
The app provides detailed park maps showing boundaries, trail networks, restrooms, parking areas, and other amenities.
Visitors can explore more than 1,000 points of interest, including scenic overlooks, boat launches, playgrounds, climbing areas, and historical sites.
Curated outings guide users to unique park experiences, while challenges allow participants to complete goals and earn digital badges for achievements.
Real-time updates keep users informed about trail closures, facility changes, and event schedules.
To celebrate the launch, Kentucky State Parks introduced the KY Passport Challenge, inviting visitors to explore all 44 state parks.
Participants can check in at any park to earn unique digital badges, with the goal of collecting all 44 badges to complete their passport.
The OuterSpatial app is available on iOS and Android. Users can join the Kentucky Community within the app to plan trips, access park information, and participate in the KY Passport Challenge.
Kentucky State Parks, which includes 17 resort parks and 13 golf courses, will continue to provide updates and information through the app and its official website, parks.ky.gov.
By integrating technology into park visits, Kentucky State Parks aims to make outdoor recreation more accessible, engaging, and informative, supporting both family experiences and the state’s broader tourism and outdoor economy.
