Fishing Creek Campground at Lake Cumberland Reopens for 2025 Season

Fishing Creek Campground at Lake Cumberland in Kentucky reopened to the public on June 30, and is now operating on a first-come, first-served basis for the remainder of the recreation season.

The reopening follows a series of infrastructure improvements led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The campground had been closed to allow for critical repairs, including the replacement of more than 400 feet of water line.

Maintenance crews removed aging infrastructure buried in solid rock and installed new piping with upgraded shut-off valves aimed at improving long-term water service reliability.

“I am extremely proud of the tremendous work performed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employees and contractors who collaborated on the first phase of campground repairs,” Jonathan Friedman, natural resources program manager, said in a press release.

“The public treasures this campground, and we’re glad to get this resource back in service for the remainder of the 2025 recreation season,” Friedman added.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages the site as part of the Lake Cumberland project in Kentucky. The repairs mark the completion of the first phase in a broader infrastructure initiative planned for the area.

Additional water line improvements are scheduled to resume after the camping season ends.

Campers arriving at Fishing Creek Campground are required to select and pay for their campsites upon arrival.

Payments must be made through Recreation.gov or the associated mobile app, which is available on Android and iOS platforms.

Advance reservations will not be accepted for the remainder of the 2025 season. This temporary change allows for greater flexibility while site infrastructure is still being evaluated.

Fishing Creek Campground is a popular destination within the Lake Cumberland area, known for its access to water-based recreation and proximity to the lake’s shoreline.

The ampground offers 26 RV sites and 20 tent-only sites, each equipped with water and electric hookups, a picnic table, fire pit or grill, and a lantern post.

Campground amenities include flush toilets, showers, drinking water, a washer and dryer, a boat ramp, and a dump station.

The site also features a day-use area with picnic sites and a playground, providing a suitable setting for large gatherings and family events.
