Carter Caves State Resort Park campground in Olive Hill, Kentucky, will temporarily close during the 2025 season for a $3.8 million renovation aimed at improving visitor experiences.
The upgrades, part of a $40 million state initiative approved by the 2024 General Assembly, are designed to modernize the park’s facilities. The project, expected to conclude by late 2025, also reflects ongoing efforts to enhance state park amenities while preserving their natural appeal.
The planned improvements include constructing a new campground store and bathhouse, additional sewer sites, and upgrades to electric and water infrastructure.
Governor Andy Beshear emphasized investing in state parks to support tourism and outdoor recreation.
“Our Kentucky State Parks offer unique outdoor opportunities, and these improvements will create unforgettable camping experiences for guests visiting our New Kentucky Home,” Beshear stated, as reported by Kentucky Today.
Kentucky State Parks Commissioner Russ Meyer also expressed optimism about the park’s future, noting that the enhancements will elevate guest satisfaction and drive tourism growth.
“This renovation project not only demonstrates our dedication to modernizing our parks but also reflects our mission to provide families and adventurers with top-notch accommodations for their outdoor experiences,” Meyer added.
