Kampgrounds of America Named Among Top Recession-Resistant Franchises for 2025

Kampgrounds of America (KOA), the world’s largest network of privately owned campgrounds, has been recognized as one of the Top Recession-Resistant Franchises for 2025 by Franchise Business Review, a market research firm specializing in franchisee satisfaction.

The distinction was based on feedback from over 35,000 franchise owners representing more than 365 franchise brands.

KOA was one of only 50 companies to be included on the list, reflecting strong support for franchisees, a stable business model, and the ability to withstand economic challenges.

Franchisees participating in the survey evaluated their experiences across 33 categories, including training, operations, leadership, and financial opportunity.

KOA scored significantly above industry averages, with 94% of franchisees reporting enjoyment in owning and operating their location.

“This recognition reflects not just the strength of our business model, but the resilience and dedication of our franchisees,” Toby O’Rourke, president and CEO of KOA, said in a press release.

“Even during times of economic uncertainty, people continue to prioritize experiences in the outdoors,” O’Rourke added.

KOA operates more than 500 campgrounds throughout North America under two primary brands: KOA and Terramor Outdoor Resorts.

The franchise provides campground owners with operational support, marketing services, education, and technology designed to enhance guest satisfaction and drive business growth.

Terramor Outdoor Resorts, launched in 2020, introduced its flagship glamping location in Bar Harbor, Maine. The brand emphasizes upscale outdoor accommodations and is part of KOA’s broader mission of connecting people with nature.

Franchise Business Review noted that brands named to this year’s list reported franchisee satisfaction scores between 10 to 40%  higher than industry norms. They also saw annual earnings 25% above average.

“While no business is 100 percent recession-proof, these franchise businesses have demonstrated that they are highly recession-resistant based on historical performance,” said Eric Stites, CEO of Franchise Business Review.
