The west side of Eveland Access Campground has reopened for the season on Friday, April 4, offering campers a scenic destination along the Des Moines River in Mahaska County, Iowa.
Managed by Mahaska County Conservation, the campground welcomes visitors to enjoy outdoor recreation amid spring weather.
According to a press release, the 33.5-acre west side of the campground features 18 campsites, including five pull-through sites, and offers both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical hookups.
Additional amenities include a fire ring, picnic table, and access to a unisex shower house, which will remain closed until overnight temperatures consistently remain above freezing.
Eveland Access Campground is a multi-use recreation area located approximately four miles southwest of Beacon at 2890 Galeston Avenue in Oskaloosa.
The property is divided between its east and west campgrounds, offering a total of 44 camping units and access to hiking trails, fishing spots, and a concrete boat ramp.
The east side of the campground spans 22.5 acres and includes 26 campsites. Facilities on this side include pit toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, an electric shelter house, and a playground.
While no reservations are accepted, all campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Mahaska County Conservation encourages early arrivals, especially during peak weekends, to secure preferred sites.
The Des Moines River, adjacent to Eveland Access, enhances the campground’s appeal for anglers and boating enthusiasts. The concrete boat ramp is frequently used for launching watercraft and is regarded as one of the finest in the county.
