Red Haw State Park (Iowa) will be open to visitors starting May 20 following a March tornado that caused significant damage to the park.
According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Red Haw State Park, located in south-central Iowa, is a stunning all-year-round destination that offers breathtaking views and a variety of recreational activities in the park’s 649-acre area.
Red Haw is well known for its springtime red buds that bloom in abundance around the lake, drawing photographers and visitors to view the beautiful pink blooms. Visitors can also enjoy boating and swimming in the summer and snowmobiling and cross-country skiing during winter.
The campground and surrounding trails, which are the most heavily damaged areas, remain closed.
Visitors can access the beach and boat ramp area but are advised to stay away from the campground as professional cleanup crews continue to clear debris and trees using heavy equipment. The DNR anticipates that the campground will remain closed until Labor Day.
