Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA) has announced that the Carpenter family has acquired the Cloverdale/Indianapolis West KOA Journey in Indiana.
The Carpenters are not new to KOA operations, as they also own and operate the Brown County/Nashville KOA Holiday. Their acquisition reflects a continued investment in the region and in KOA’s national network of campgrounds.
Located one mile off Interstate 70 on 27 acres, the Cloverdale/Indianapolis West KOA Journey is positioned to serve both transient travelers and longer-stay campers.
The property sits midway between Indianapolis and Terre Haute, within driving distance of attractions such as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Lucas Oil Stadium, and Cagles Mill Lake.
“We’re excited to expand our KOA journey with a campground that brings us closer to our children and to a region we truly love,” said Shawn Carpenter of the Cloverdale/Indianapolis West KOA Journey.
“This campground gives us the opportunity to do more than offer a night’s rest—we can connect travelers with everything this community has to offer, from rodeos and racing, to historic bridges and scenic trails.”
The campground offers a variety of amenities, including 50-amp full hookup RV sites, an EV charging station, upgraded Wi-Fi, and cabins located near a fishing pond. Recreational opportunities include an 18-hole disc golf course, ping pong, a Kamp K9 dog park, and a playground.
On-site facilities include a camp store, community room, coin laundry, and dog-walking trails. The owners plan to expand with additional RV sites and Deluxe Cabins in the future.
According to KOA’s 2024 Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, campers contributed $61 billion to local economies last year, with the average camper spending $200 per day.
Nearly one-third of campers reported seeking out small-town experiences and food tourism during their stays. These findings highlight the potential impact of the Cloverdale/Indianapolis West KOA Journey on surrounding businesses, particularly in hospitality, dining, and local attractions.
For business owners in the outdoor hospitality sector, this acquisition underscores a continuing trend of experienced operators reinvesting in strategic locations.
Properties near major travel routes with ties to regional attractions are positioned to capture both transient RV traffic and destination travelers. The Carpenters’ decision to expand suggests confidence in long-term demand for well-located, amenity-rich campgrounds.
The Cloverdale/Indianapolis West KOA Journey is open year-round and is one of more than 500 KOA campgrounds across the U.S. and Canada.
