Kane County Forest Preserve Campgrounds Set to Open May 1 for 2025 Season

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County in Illinois will open its campgrounds for the 2025 season on May 1, with recreational camping available through Oct. 19. 

Campers can reserve sites at Paul Wolff Campground in Elgin and Big Rock Campground in Big Rock online, with reservations now open.

Both campgrounds require online booking in advance of arrival through kaneforest.com/camping

Check-in time for all campsites is 3 p.m., and check-out is at 12 p.m., according to the Forest Preserve District.

According to an article published by Shaw Local News Network on April 22, Paul Wolff Campground, located within Burnidge Forest Preserve in Elgin, features 104 campsites, including 89 improved sites equipped with electrical service, water access, parking pads, and fire rings. 

The campground also offers 10 primitive, tent-only sites without electricity and five equestrian sites. ADA-accessible campsites are available upon request.

Burnidge Forest Preserve features rolling hills, woodlands, and 9 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and equestrian use. Additional amenities include a picnic shelter, fishing ponds, and a climbing rock. 

Big Rock Campground, within Big Rock Forest Preserve in Big Rock, contains 109 total campsites. It offers 96 improved sites with full electrical and water hookups, nine primitive tent-only sites, and four equestrian sites. ADA-accessible sites are available upon request.

Campers can also fish in the campground pond or Siegler Lake, with kayaking permitted on the lake as well. More than 9 miles of multi-use trails and two picnic shelters are available to guests

Camping fees for improved sites are $26 per day for Kane County residents and $41 per day for non-residents. 

Primitive campsites are $18 per day for residents and $24 for non-residents. Equestrian campsites also cost $21 per day for residents and $31 for non-residents.
