Two campgrounds, Shadowy St. Joe Campground, and Line Creek Stock Camp, are set to open their reservations on April 1, according to a Big County News report.
The Line Creek Stock Camp offers a more rustic camping experience. This camp is nestled beside the Wild and Scenic St. Joe River. The camp provides pull-through camping units, fire pits, vault toilets, and specialized facilities for animals, including feed bunks, Highline poles, and a corral. Direct access to the river ensures that water for stock animals is readily available. A portion of the sites designed for visitors with animals is reserved. It showcases fishing areas near the St. Joe River and access to several trails.
The Shadowy St. Joe Campground, nestled about 10 miles east of St. Maries, underwent significant renovations to enhance visitor experiences. This campground now features modern amenities, including electrical hookups, paved roads, camping spurs, and accessible facilities such as picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets.
A group shelter, capable of seating 40 people, has been updated with lighting, barbecue grills, and accessible tables. These improvements were made possible through funding from the Great American Outdoors Act and contributions from the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, underscoring a commitment to preserving natural resources.
In anticipation of future camping seasons, plans are underway to further enhance these Forest Service campgrounds with additional corrals and picnic tables.
Reservations for both campgrounds can be made through the official website, www.recreation.gov, which may impose an online booking fee. The Shadowy St. Joe Campground charges $20 per day for a campsite and $35 per day for the group picnic shelter. An extra $5 fee is applicable for boat launch services. The Line Creek Stock Camp sets its daily rate at $10.
