The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Burley Field Office is requesting public feedback on a proposed grant application to the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation.
The grant seeks $200,000 from the Waterways Improvement Fund (WIF) to enhance facilities at Lud Drexler Park, located at the Salmon Falls Reservoir near the Idaho-Nevada border, south of Twin Falls.
According to a press release, the primary focus of the proposal is to replace the boat ramp at Lud Drexler Park to improve safety and accessibility for visitors. BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner Taylor Baxter said, “The BLM has recognized the need to replace the boat ramp at Lud Drexler for continued and improved access to Salmon Falls Reservoir. We want to hear from those who use and enjoy the area.”
The BLM set a December 31 deadline for public comments, with the project expected to begin in 2026 if funding is secured.
Camping at Lud Drexler Park
Lud Drexler Park, established as a collaborative effort between the BLM, Twin Falls County, the Salmon River Canal Company, and local sportsmen, serves as a key recreation site in the region. The park’s namesake, Lud Drexler, was a prominent Idahoan whose contributions played a vital role in its development.
The park features amenities including a boat ramp, 20 developed campsites with shade cabanas, fire rings, picnic tables, and vault toilets. Its shore access and facilities also attract visitors throughout the year.
Potable water and an RV dump station are available on-site at Lud Drexler Park, making it a convenient destination for visitors. The Salmon Falls Reservoir attracts outdoor enthusiasts year-round, offering opportunities for boating, fishing, and camping.
Anglers also frequent the reservoir for its diverse fish species, including trout, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, and walleye. In the fall, the campground becomes a favored spot for its outdoor activities.
Camping at Lud Drexler Park operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with accommodations suited for tent camping.
