Hipcamp Expands Camping Access With New National Trails System Partnership

Hipcamp has partnered with the Partnership for the National Trails System to launch new map-based collections designed to connect travelers with camping options near America’s National Scenic and Historic Trails.

The rollout, announced ahead of National Trails Day on June 6, introduces an interactive map overlay that places trail routes directly onto the Hipcamp platform and highlights bookable campsites located within five miles of designated trails.

The initiative is positioned to streamline trip planning for trail users by linking route-based exploration with nearby overnight stays.

According to the companies, the collections surface 1,182 campgrounds and properties across 11 National Scenic and Historic Trails, including the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, Arizona Trail, Florida Trail, Ice Age Trail, and Lewis and Clark Trail.

The dataset also extends to additional historic and scenic corridors included in the National Trails System.

The platform allows users to follow trail routes and refine searches by date, camping style, vehicle type, pet access, and available amenities. The system aggregates options spanning private land, working farms, RV parks, campgrounds, and glamping operations, consolidating listings into a single planning interface centered on trail proximity.

By organizing listings around trail corridors, the initiative aims to expand visibility for outdoor hospitality providers while offering campers a more structured way to plan multi-day outdoor trips tied to specific routes and regions.

“Hipcamp was built to make camping easier to discover and book, wherever and however people want to camp,” said Alyssa Ravasio, founder and chief executive officer of Hipcamp. “By working with PNTS, we’re helping people connect iconic trail experiences with the full range of camping options nearby, bringing visibility to both areas of the outdoor economy.”

“Helping more people discover and responsibly experience National Scenic and Historic Trails is central to our work,” said Courtney Lyons-Garcia, executive director at the Partnership for the National Trails System. “This partnership with Hipcamp creates a useful planning tool for trail users looking to find places to camp nearby, while helping connect more people with the communities, landscapes, and outdoor recreation opportunities along these remarkable trail corridors.”

The launch aligns with National Trails Day, a national observance focused on trail stewardship, outdoor access, and community participation.
