Grounded Introduces G3 Electric Camper Van Built for All Seasons

Grounded, a Detroit-based electric RV manufacturer founded by former SpaceX engineers, has launched the G3, an all-electric camper van built for year-round use and long-range travel.

Built on the General Motors BrightDrop Zevo 400 and 600 chassis, the G3 offers a 286-mile range on a single charge and introduces modular design and smart systems tailored to four-season adventure.

The vehicle includes features such as self-heating batteries, rooftop solar, and Starlink connectivity to support off-grid living.

“The G3 is a next-gen offering for travelers who want to live, work, and roam in comfort, grounded in what matters,” Sam Shapiro, CEO of Grounded, said in a press release.

“It’s a ground-up reimagining of our smart, fully-electric RV that’s based on real-world use,” Shapiro added.

Designed with customer feedback in mind, the G3 replaces traditional wood interiors with aluminum-framed cabinetry made from 100% recycled materials.

It also features a redesigned thermal-efficient rear entry, a motorized lift bed that converts into a California King, and a remote-controlled Grounded+ app for managing onboard systems.

A key improvement in the G3 is its enhanced cold-weather functionality. The van is equipped with 20kWh of modular lithium iron phosphate batteries capable of operating in temperatures as low as 0°F. These batteries can be recharged via rooftop solar, shore power, or a new 1,400W vehicle-to-house charging system.

Inside, Grounded emphasizes durability and customization. The cabinet panels, made from recycled household appliances, are scratch-resistant and low-maintenance.

“For our customers, the van is a culmination of their dream lifestyle and values,” said Nadia Meyer, chief product officer at Grounded. “The aesthetics and function of every detail are critical for such a compact space.”

The G3 is available in three build tiers: Form ($165,000), Function ($180,000), and Freedom ($200,000). Each package offers varying levels of amenities, including kitchen upgrades, power capacity, and bathroom installations. The Freedom tier includes maximum battery storage, Starlink connectivity, and bespoke finishes.

Nick Fitzpatrick, head of design at Grounded, said the G3 was created to deliver longevity through modular architecture. “For the G3, we’ve combined sustainable materials with modular architecture that’s built to last,” he said.

Grounded is also expanding its offerings to support commercial use cases, including mobile healthcare, food service, and remote workspaces.
