Following only traditional travel trailers, fifth wheels are second in well-known RV types, making up 20% of all RV owners, according to RV Industry Association’s Go RVing RV Owner Demographic Profile.
Young families comprise 27% of fifth wheel owners, 34% are millennials and Gen Z, while 24% are first-time owners.
Fifth wheels are typically utilized for 30 days out of the year. They are used the most during the summer (85%), then autumn (61%), followed by spring (50%) and winter (36%). 54% of fifth wheel owners prefer staying at private campgrounds or state parks while 38% prefer national parks or campgrounds.
When they travel, half of these RV owners are interested in other outdoor recreational activities, such as fishing (50%), hiking (45%) as well as water recreational activities (30%). 61% of them said they chose to travel because of unwinding and relaxing, while 57% expressed that they would like to spend time outdoors, and 55% wanted to go to areas with natural beauty. Others brought bicycles (28%) and secondary vehicles (13%).
When it comes to demographics, 46% are between the ages of 18 to 34, and 54% are aged 55 or older. 59% of people with a fifth wheel are female, while 41% are male. In terms of employment, 37% of them are retired, while 34% are employed full-time. The annual average income for 52% of fifth wheel owners is greater than $65,000. 71% of owners have no children at home.
