A new glamping destination has opened in Milledgeville, Georgia, offering guests a secluded outdoor experience with the comforts of home. Simple Pleasures Glamping, owned and operated by Cindy and Darrin Millsaps, opened its first geodesic dome accommodation in June and plans to complete a second unit soon.
The couple, both retired engineers from Lawrenceville, Georgia, developed the business after years of traveling through the Milledgeville area.
“When we traveled on vacation, we would pass through Milledgeville and saw a lot of potential in the area,” Cindy Millsaps said.
“The lake is nice, but once you get off the lake, the options are limited and there are not really any unique accommodations or places that offer exclusive stays that feature the beauty of the area.”
Located on more than 100 acres at 385 Old Monticello Road NW, the property offers an adults-only stay in themed domes designed for privacy and comfort.
The first dome, Whispering Woods, was inspired by the animated film My Neighbor Totoro, while the upcoming Bag End Retreat takes its cue from The Hobbit. Each unit includes a king bed, private bathroom, kitchenette, deck, fire pit, and parking area.
Reservations are required and can be booked through the property’s website. Rates average $150 per night, varying by season and day of the week. The site also charges a cleaning fee and includes insurance coverage instead of a traditional security deposit.
The Millsaps designed Simple Pleasures to be small-scale and environmentally mindful, with minimal development and nature-focused experiences such as hiking trails, outdoor games, and optional add-ons like s’mores kits or romance packages.
“I love seeing people enjoy the property as much as we do,” Cindy told The Union-Recorder. “It is great to hear people provide us with feedback on how much they love the secluded and serene setting, but still only be 10 minutes from town or lake access.”
For business owners in the glamping industry, Simple Pleasures Glamping illustrates the potential for niche, experience-driven accommodations that combine design, theming, and local natural assets to attract visitors seeking privacy and comfort.
