Crawford’s Double O Farm in rural Thomson, Georgia, has developed into a glamping destination built around agritourism and family involvement.
The family-run operation, approximately 40 miles west of Augusta, offers a unique experience that blends outdoor accommodations with farm interaction, centering on a herd of Highland cows and other animals such as sheep and llamas.
The farm’s owner, Vanessa Crawford, began raising Highland cows during the COVID-19 pandemic, when remote work provided the time and flexibility to explore new interests.
“We’d had horses for decades beforehand and I just fell in love with the breed,” Crawford said. “It quickly progressed from one to at least 20 at any given time.”
What began as an interest in livestock evolved into a hospitality venture. Initially offering a glamping tent and RV rental, Crawford later partnered with photographer Hannah Davis of Wild Artistry.
According to The Augusta Chronicle, that partnership expanded the site’s aesthetic and functional offerings, introducing themed yurts tailored for overnight stays and photo opportunities.
Today, Double O Farm features three yurt sites: two single-yurt sites and one double-yurt site. Each unit is uniquely branded—the Cowabunga Yurt, the Groovy Cow Yurt, and the Shaggy Cow Yurt.
All are enclosed, climate-controlled spaces outfitted with electricity, made-up beds, radios or record players, and various furnishings. Each also has access to a shared bathroom facility with sinks and showers.
Crawford attributes the appeal to a combination of themed lodging and hands-on animal encounters. Visitors can brush and feed animals, enjoy cold drinks and ice cream from the farm store, or participate in “Mooo-vies Under the Stars,” a family-friendly outdoor movie night.
The family, including children Olivia and Oliver Crawford, are involved in welcoming guests. “I make friends with all of them,” said eight-year-old Oliver. Olivia, 11, aspires to become a veterinarian.
“It’s amazing, I love being out here with the animals,” she said. “It pushes me to try to really get my goals.”
The yurts are listed individually on Airbnb and routinely sell out. Pricing varies by season and length of stay. For bookings and additional details, the farm directs visitors to its Facebook page and its listings at thenukcamp.com.
For outdoor hospitality professionals, Double O Farm offers a case study in integrating livestock, family branding, and photo-driven appeal into a glamping model. The partnership with a photographer underscores how strategic aesthetic design and marketing can drive demand.
Operators considering farm stays or agri-glamping concepts may find value in observing how Double O Farm maximizes both occupancy and guest engagement through themed lodging and interactive experiences.
