Harbinger Launches Energy Storage Line, Partners with Airstream for Off-Grid Travel Trailers

Harbinger, an American automotive and industrial manufacturer, has introduced a new business line, Harbinger Industria, offering its proprietary battery technology for energy storage and auxiliary power applications.

The company announced that Airstream will be the first customer to integrate the system, debuting the Harbinger Power System in its new Trade Wind 27FB travel trailer, designed to support extended off-grid camping.

John Harris, co-founder and CEO of Harbinger, said the partnership demonstrates the application of automotive-grade battery systems in the recreational vehicle sector.

“By introducing automotive battery systems to the RV market, we’re helping set a new standard for off-grid performance,” Harris said in a press release.

He emphasized that the systems are American-made and priced to align with customer expectations.

Harbinger designs and manufactures its high-voltage battery systems at its California factory, using Panasonic Energy lithium-ion cells. The company’s vertically integrated production supports durability, performance, and cost efficiency. The batteries are built to automotive-grade standards, considered among the “most stringent” globally for safety and reliability.

Bob Wheeler, Airstream president and CEO, highlighted the operational benefits for consumers.

“The Airstream Trade Wind 27FB has the most capable off-grid electrical system we’ve ever offered in our travel trailer product line,” Wheeler said. He noted that integrating Harbinger’s battery technology allows users to remain off-grid longer with “confidence.”

The Trade Wind 27FB energy system features up to 18.5 kilowatt-hours of storage, the largest in Airstream’s travel trailer lineup. It is designed to be solar-ready, with a 600-watt rooftop solar system to capture and store renewable energy efficiently.

High-capacity output is supported by a 50-amp service that powers dual air conditioners with heat pumps, routed through a fully inverted 5,000-watt electrical system to ensure continuous energy distribution without shore power.

The system also provides intelligent management of high- and low-voltage states and uses a liquid-based thermal system to protect battery longevity under extreme temperatures.

The system includes a custom display for real-time monitoring of battery health, energy consumption, and power sources, integrating inputs from solar, shore, and battery power.

The Trade Wind 27FB and Harbinger Power System will be showcased at the 2026 Florida RV SuperShow in Tampa, January 14–18. Airstream plans to announce dealer availability, final specifications, and pricing in Spring 2026.
