General RV Center recently announced the launch of the General RV Tech School. This innovative training program is designed to equip employees with the skills necessary to become certified RV technicians without the burden of tuition fees.
The initiative is a strategic response to the growing demand for skilled RV technicians across the industry. As RV ownership increases, the need for qualified service personnel becomes more acute, impacting both service quality and customer satisfaction.
In an effort to strengthen its workforce, General RV has partnered with the RV Technical Institute (RVTI) and other key industry manufacturers. This collaboration aims to ensure that the training provided is comprehensive and aligned with industry standards, according to a press release.
“The General RV Tech School is our commitment to our employees’ professional development and our customers’ satisfaction. This program enables us to enhance our service capabilities across our Supercenters nationwide,” said Laura Dobbs, General RV’s director of service and customer experience.
The training program is structured around a core curriculum developed by RVTI. It includes hands-on training sessions at General RV’s facilities in Elkhart, Indiana, and Dover, Florida. Participants in the program receive full compensation during their training and are awarded certifications upon successful completion of the courses.
For 2024, the General RV Tech School is set to offer RVTI Level 1 and Level 2 training courses. The Level 1 certification, which covers Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI), can be attained at any General RV location. This certification is valid for life and is considered an essential qualification for RV technicians.
The Level 2 course, focusing on more advanced diagnostics and repairs, requires technicians to travel to the specified training centers in Indiana or Florida. Upon passing both written and performance assessments, technicians are granted a Level 2 certification that is valid for five years.
Future plans for the General RV Tech School include the introduction of Level 3 and Level 4/Master Technician certifications, as part of the program’s ongoing development and support for career progression within the company.
Founded in 1962 in Michigan, General RV Center has grown to operate nearly 20 full-service dealerships across multiple states including new expansions in Florida, Utah, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. This network of locations supports the company’s goal of providing comprehensive service and sales facilities to the RV community.
With the launch of the General RV Tech School, General RV Center not only addresses the immediate needs of the industry but also sets a new standard for employee training and customer service excellence in the RV sector.
This program is a pivotal part of General RV’s strategy to maintain its position as a leader in the RV industry, ensuring that both employees and customers benefit from the highest levels of technical expertise and service.
