FRVCA Releases December Legislative Update

The Florida RV and Campground Association (FRVCA) released its December 2023 Legislative Update, authored by Jennifer Ungru, offering a detailed insight into the recent legislative activities in Florida’s state Legislature.

The update, crucial for stakeholders in the campground and outdoor hospitality industry, highlights several key developments that could significantly impact this sector.

In a significant development for disaster management, the Legislature approved bills amounting to $462 million for hurricane relief. This includes a substantial allocation to the My Safe Florida Home program, designed to help homeowners fortify their residences against hurricanes.

Additionally, the Legislature addressed the housing needs post-Hurricane Idalia by allocating $25 million to the Florida Housing Finance Corp. for the Hurricane Housing Recovery Program.

Tax breaks introduced for agricultural equipment and materials for repairs post-Hurricane Idalia are another highlight of the legislative actions. These tax breaks are anticipated to ease the financial burden on businesses, including those in the outdoor hospitality sector, facilitating quicker recovery and resumption of operations.

The Legislature also took a significant step in education by making more school vouchers available for students with disabilities.

This initiative, by partially lifting a cap on the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities, demonstrates the state’s commitment to inclusive education, a factor that can enhance the community’s overall well-being.

FRVCA Legislative Update for December 2023 highlights several legislative actions and developments that hold significant implications for the campground and outdoor hospitality industry in Florida.

From providing financial relief for hurricane-affected areas, promoting inclusive education to engaging in crucial elections, these developments reflect a dynamic legislative environment. Stakeholders in the industry are encouraged to stay informed and engaged with these changes, as they have the potential to shape the future of outdoor hospitality in Florida.
