Florida’s Sunshine Key RV Resort Offers Full-Service Island Experience

Florida continues to be a significant destination for campers and RV travelers, drawing visitors year-round with its warm climate and coastal attractions. Among the state’s RV accommodations, the Sunshine Key RV Resort and Marina in the Lower Florida Keys offers a 75-acre island retreat on Ohio Key, also known as Sunshine Key.

The resort is situated along the Overseas Highway, between Marathon and Big Pine Key, providing easy access to nearby beaches and waterways.

The property includes nearly 400 RV sites with full hook-ups and picnic tables. Rates begin at $231 per night, with ocean- and marina-view sites commanding higher prices. For travelers without personal RVs, one- and two-bedroom RVs, waterfront cottages, and tiny homes are available for rent.

The resort also provides restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities, as well as a convenience store, playground, swimming pool, and a small beach area. Social and recreational programming is part of the guest experience, including fitness classes, dance sessions, outdoor bingo, movie nights, and on-site dining from a BBQ food truck.

One guest review highlighted the location, stating, “The sunsets here are out of this world! Every evening felt like a front-row seat to a private show of nature’s beauty.” Another added, “Out of pure selfishness, I want to tell you to not come here. I want this place all to myself,” emphasizing the appeal of the island setting.

Sunshine Key RV Resort also supports water-based activities, according to an article published by Islands. Visitors can rent boats, kayaks, and paddleboards from Chartered Marine Rentals, or participate in guided snorkeling tours and sunset cruises.

Nearby Bahia Honda State Park, spanning over 500 acres, offers additional beaches and snorkeling opportunities. Park hours are typically 8 a.m. to sunset, with entrance fees ranging from $2.50 to $8 depending on vehicle occupancy.

For RV operators and park managers, Sunshine Key illustrates the potential of combining full-service camping with additional rental options and social programming.

The location demonstrates how coastal resorts can attract visitors year-round, especially during winter months when other areas may see lower occupancy.

Operators should note that the region is subject to hurricane impacts from June 1 to November 30, and that visitor traffic peaks in the winter, with spring visits offering lower congestion.
