ARVC Celebrates First Day of OHCE2022 with Networking Reception, Conference Going ‘Fantastic’ So Far

The National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC) on November 7 kicked off the Outdoor Hospitality Conference & Expo 2022 (OHCE2022) with a series of educational and fun activities. Later that day, attendees headed to Margaritaville at Universal City Walk for a fun-filled networking reception.

Each donning a floral necklace, attendees were on vacation mode and were all smiles throughout the evening as they caught up with friends and colleagues at the reception.

There was plenty of space for people to move around and there were plenty of drinks and appetizers for everyone to enjoy.

Sponsored by RMS, RVShare, BlueWater, and Firefly Reservations, the reception was an ideal way to end a day of education and fun. It also served as the kick-off of another ARVC event filled with learning and networking opportunities.

Earlier that day, OHCE2022 attendees were busy with educational and networking sessions organized by the national campground association.

The morning began with a Prospective Owners Workshop (POW!) at the Rosen Centre Hotel, followed by Takeaway Tours at four different ARVC member parks: Camp Margaritaville RV Resort & Cabana Cabins, Sanlan RV and Gold Resort, Stage Stop RV Campground, and Wekiva Falls RV Resort.

Yesterday’s in-person POW! was a supplement to the POW! course on ARVC’s website. Meanwhile, an add-on experience, the Takeaway Tours gave attendees access to a closer look at how successful parks operate on the day-to-day.

The industry event continues today with a keynote session delivered this morning by improviser, author, and keynote speaker Judi Holler.

Titled “EVERYDAY IMPROVISER: Think like a CEO {&} Take More Confident Action,” this keynote address aims to help participants address everyday life hurdles through improv theater ideologies.

During the session, Holler discussed ways to have a mindset that will boost performance and achieve results, better collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, stay agile in the ever-changing world and work environment, and more.

The end goal of the session is for attendees to build confidence in persons and teams, so they can quickly transform challenges into opportunities and remain flexible even amid disruption.

David Basler, ARVC’s vice president of membership and marketing, said that the event is going great so far.

“It is going fantastic. We got record numbers [and] an engaged audience—they love the keynote. It got us going with the improv message that possibilities are endless, and they start here at OHCE,” Basler told Modern Campground.

Educational sessions will also begin starting with a panel discussion called “Outdoor Hospitality and the Future of Electric Vehicles” to be moderated by Basler.

Panelists Nick Davis (Winnebago Industries), Alleyn Harned (National Drive Smart), Jake Roach (QuietKat), and Tom “Smitty” Smith (Texas Electric Transportation Resource Alliance) will discuss the role of EVs in the outdoor hospitality industry.

Tonight, another networking reception will be held from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Sponsored by Spot2Nite and Newbook, the reception will go with the 1980s theme and feature classic 80s ornaments, snacks, and live music.

Another panel discussion this week will be about the road map for campgrounds to accommodate and attract travelers who own EVs and EV RVs.

Other sessions will tackle guest experience standards, onboarding vs. orientation, ADA-compliant websites, and the value of using OTAs. There will also be sessions on employment legal hurdles, the economic outlook for 2023, generational camping report, tips from campground operators, and more.

The Outdoor Hospitality Conference & Expo 2022 is underway at the Rosen Centre Hotel and Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. The campground industry event runs through Thursday, November 10.
