Expedia, Becoming rentABLE Partner to Expand Accessible Rentals for Travelers With Disabilities

Expedia Group has joined forces with Becoming rentABLE in a partnership aimed at improving accessibility across short-term rental accommodations, a move that could help campground owners, operators, and outdoor hospitality providers expand their reach to millions of underserved travelers with disabilities.

Becoming rentABLE, a company focused on promoting accessible rental options, has spent the past two years developing this collaboration with Expedia and its vacation rental platform VRBO, with the goal of setting a new standard for inclusive travel.

The partnership goes beyond website filters and marketing materials. It involves Expedia employees actively challenging traditional assumptions and working to ensure travelers with disabilities are not only accommodated but considered a priority in the booking process.

“Expedia employees [are] raising their hands, challenging assumptions, and working with passion to ensure that travelers with disabilities are not just included, but prioritized,” the announcement indicates.

The alliance aligns with a report showing that more than 70 million Americans live with disabilities—a significant portion of the travel market often overlooked by traditional accommodation providers.

Additionally, demographic projections show that the senior population in the United States is expected to grow by 30 million by 2030, underscoring the urgent need for more inclusive accommodations.

“It’s not just good business; it’s responsible industry stewardship,” the announcement explains.

For campground owners and outdoor hospitality operators, the initiative highlights the economic opportunity and social responsibility tied to accessible lodging.

Becoming rentABLE emphasized that adding even a few accessible units can have a substantial impact on guest satisfaction and broaden the customer base.

“We all want happy guests. The Accessible Retreat offers a unique opportunity to welcome and serve a broader customer base, ensuring they have a positive and memorable experience,” the announcement states.

As travelers seek accommodations that respect their needs, the Expedia and Becoming rentABLE partnership highlight what inclusive hospitality looks like across all sectors, from vacation rentals to campgrounds and glamping sites.
