Lees Ferry Campground to Raise Rates Starting January 2025

The cost of camping at Lees Ferry Campground in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area will increase to $26 per night starting January 2025, marking a 30% rise from the current rate of $20 per night.

The adjustment represents the first fee increase in five years and is aimed at aligning prices with comparable campgrounds in the region. Public feedback on the proposed Grand Canyon fee increase is open, with comments accepted until December 15.

The additional revenue will be used for facility maintenance, improvements, and staffing needs. Lees Ferry Campground, a site known for its access to the Colorado River and recreational opportunities, attracts a diverse range of visitors.

Grand Canyon National Park is also proposing a fee increase for its campsites on the South and North Rims. The proposed adjustment would raise nightly rates to $30, representing a 66% increase over the current price.

“Funds from an increase would be used for activities and projects that serve visitors to Glen Canyon,” a press release indicated.

According to its website, Lees Ferry, located within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, is the only location along more than 700 miles of canyon country where visitors can drive directly to the Colorado River. Positioned at the start of the Grand Canyon’s first rapid, the site holds historical significance as a corridor between Utah and Arizona

Camping at Lees Ferry Campground, which features 54 sites, is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground includes amenities such as potable water, a comfort station with bathrooms, and grills, but offers no RV hookups or open fires.

Additional camping options include the Beehives Campground with six designated sites for $14 per night and the Lone Rock Beach Primitive Camping Area, where visitors can camp in sandy dunes without designated sites. Both Beehives and Lone Rock offer limited facilities, emphasizing a more rugged camping experience.
