Glamping Structures Getting More Unique

The Glamping Show USA already wrapped up last week, but innovations in the glamping industry continue to be unwrapped.

The expo at The Glamping Show USA 2022 was open to attendees until October 5 at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds in Aurora, Colorado where unique structures and companies providing them were on exhibit.

Vendors from 32 countries have traveled to the Centennial State to showcase their products and services to glamping business owners, operators, and prospective owners in attendance.

One of the unique structures showcased at the expo was the Mono lodge of Canadian company Drop Structures.

Standing tall and proud, the modern cabin was designed to merge aesthetics and functionality. At 157 square feet, the creative structure features a vaulted ceiling and big windows.

It also has a standing seam metal exterior, drywall interior, cedar-wrapped deck, integrated steel base, and more.

Another company on exhibit was Yurts for Life. Owned by Sacha Macey, the United Kingdom-based business has been manufacturing high-quality yurts of all sizes for 13 years now, eight years of which were under Sacha’s ownership.

In a conversation with Modern Campground, Macey said their yurts are Kyrgyzstan style and feature steam-bent parts. Yurts made by American manufacturers are usually Mongolian style with a straight roof rib or lattice that goes around the walls.

“So we’ve got a more artisan feel to our yurts,” she said.

The canvas covers of the yurts can last up to a decade and almost everything else is component part replaceable.

Yurts for Life also sources wood locally in the U.K. and prides itself on its customer service team.

For the company, glamping is posh camping, believing that it should have a canvas element to it.

When it comes to innovations, 3D printers have come a long way. California-based RIC Technology fuses architecture and technology, creating 3D-printed cabins.

The structures, Ziyou Xu told MC, were built using advanced robotics, artificial intelligence, high-performance materials, and parametric design. These elements make for a time-efficient and cost-effective construction process, he said.

Xu said the company helps bring unique structures to businesses “so they can have their individualized cabins and differentiate themselves [from] everyone.” The company also offers design services through its architectural firm, which has been around for more than three decades now.

“So we can work with any type of design requirements to get clients that really unique product, essentially.

While its primary goal is to build residential housing, the construction-design company is tapping into the glamping market with 120-square-foot cabins done with a modular robotic system.

For material, the structures are made of fiber-reinforced concrete, making each building robust.

RIC Technologies has taken on both small and large-scale projects—a 50,000-square-foot park being its biggest, which only took the company ten weeks to complete.

Other unique structures at The Glamping Show USA were safari tents, a stargazer bell tent, the Pony wagon by PlainsCraft Covered Wagons, and more.
