Care Camps Foundation to Be Featured on Lifetime’s Designing Spaces of Hope

The Care Camps Foundation, a nonprofit that funds pediatric oncology camps across the United States and Canada, will be featured on Designing Spaces of Hope, airing on Lifetime TV.

The episode is scheduled to premiere Wednesday, September 24, at 7:30 a.m. ET/PT, with a second airing set for October 8.

The broadcast will focus on the foundation’s mission of supporting children with cancer through medically supervised camps.

Following the premiere, the episode will be available online at carecamps.org beginning September 25.

The program will highlight Happiness Is Camping, a camp in New Jersey that began 41 years ago as one of the first pediatric oncology camps. The camp serves children from more than 15 hospitals across the Northeast and offers opportunities for recreation, connection, and community support.

The episode will feature the stories of campers and families, illustrating how oncology camps create experiences that bring joy and healing to children navigating cancer treatment.

“We are deeply grateful to the production team of Designing Spaces of Hope and all the sponsors who made this special program happen,” said Gwynn Sullivan, executive director of Care Camps Foundation.

“Happiness Is Camping is a shining example of all the camps we fund across North America, and our goal is to give more children with cancer the healing magic these camps offer,” Sullivan added.

Kampgrounds of America (KOA), a longtime supporter of Care Camps, is among the organizations helping raise awareness of the initiative. KOA’s president and CEO, Toby O’Rourke, emphasized the connection between the foundation and the camping community.

“Care Camps Foundation is truly woven into the heart of KOA,” O’Rourke said. “Each year, our properties, employees, and campers come together in inspiring ways to raise funds and awareness for these remarkable oncology camps.

“With September being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, it’s the perfect time to shine a brighter light on the joy, hope, and healing these camps provide. We encourage everyone to take a few moments to learn more about this meaningful program and see the incredible impact it has on children and families.” O’Rourke added.

Sponsors supporting the Lifetime feature include BrandStar, Patrick Industries, KOA, Hyundai Hope on Wheels, The J.M. Smucker Company, Mattel Children’s Foundation, and Happiness Is Camping

Care Camps Foundation provides funding to 125 pediatric oncology camps across the U.S. and Canada. Collectively, these programs serve more than 41,000 children with cancer and their families each year.

The foundation’s mission is to give children with cancer and their families opportunities to find joy, hope, and the healing power of the outdoors. By partnering with businesses, foundations, and the outdoor industry, Care Camps builds resources to continue funding its network of programs.

Care Camps also partners with the Children’s Oncology Camping Association (COCA) to ensure quality assurance and professional development for camp staff, maintaining consistent standards across the programs it supports.
