Placer County has approved a comprehensive renovation of Cisco Grove Campground, a 144-site property along Interstate 80 near Cisco Grove, California.
The project will transform the decades-old campground into a family-focused adventure resort while preserving its existing capacity, adding new recreational amenities, and updating infrastructure for overnight guests.
According to an article published by Active NorCal on December 4, Placer County officials signed off on the renovation plan, marking a significant investment in the region’s outdoor hospitality offerings.
The campground, located roughly 20 miles west of Truckee, has long served as a first stop for travelers heading to the Lake Tahoe area.
The facelift will maintain all 144 campsites and will not expand capacity. Instead, the focus is on enhancing guest experience through added amenities and infrastructure updates.
Planned improvements include a remodeled general store and check-in area, a swimming pool, a snow tubing hill, pickleball courts, and a miniature golf course.
A crafts pavilion and paddle boats are also among the planned features.
All new amenities will be restricted to overnight guests; day-use visitors will not have access. The restriction aligns with the campground’s shift toward multi-day family stays rather than transient day visits.
Cisco Grove Campground first opened in the 1970s under the name Rivers Edge. At one time, the property included a motel and restaurant but gradually fell into disrepair.
The current renovation aims to restore its appeal while retaining its rustic character along the South Yuba River.
“The renovated campground will continue to serve both summer and winter visitors, with tent and RV camping offered from mid-May through mid-October and limited winter RV camping from October through May. All amenities will be available exclusively to registered campers, with no public day use,” the announcement indicates.
The renovation plan includes on-site employee housing, which will support staffing for the expanded amenities and year-round operations.
