Lake Tulloch Campground & Marina Closes Permanently Amid Operational Challenges

Lake Tulloch Campground & Marina in Tuolumne County, California, has closed, citing circumstances beyond management’s control that made ongoing operations unsafe and financially unsustainable.

The marina served as one of the few public access points to Lake Tulloch, where private residences and marinas dominate the north shore.

Lake Tulloch Campground & Marina’s management announced the closure on the property’s website and social media platforms.

“Unfortunately, circumstances outside of our control have made it impossible for us to continue providing services in a safe, financially viable, and compliant manner. As a result, Lake Tulloch RV Campground & Marina will be closing to the public permanently, effective immediately,” the campground announces on its website.

The closure affects a facility that has long provided recreational services for families, visitors, and the local community.

The management highlighted the significance of the campground as a community resource and expressed appreciation for years of patronage.

Lake Tulloch, also known as Tulloch Reservoir, was constructed as part of the Tri-Dam Project and has served as a regional recreation destination.

The marina was one of the primary public access points, providing boating, fishing, and lake access amid predominantly private shoreline properties.

According to an article published by myMotherLode.com on December 12, earlier in 2025, recreational boating at the lake was temporarily halted due to concerns over the potential spread of invasive golden mussels. No mussels were detected, and boating activities resumed in April.

Despite the temporary reopening, the facility faced ongoing operational challenges that ultimately led to its permanent closure.

Inquiries about the property’s future use, management, or status are being directed to the County of Tuolumne and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Management expressed gratitude for the community’s support over the years.

The permanent shutdown underscores the difficulties small operators face in maintaining compliance, safety, and financial sustainability, particularly in areas where public access to natural resources is limited.

“We understand that this news will come as a significant disappointment. It has been our privilege to serve the families, visitors, and community members who helped make this place special. We are sincerely grateful for your support and for the many memories created here,” the campgrounds adds.
