Seasonal shutdowns are underway at Lake Tahoe Basin recreation sites, with the USDA Forest Service closing beaches, campgrounds, picnic areas, interpretive sites, and resorts in phases through November 30.
The closures are part of the Forest Service’s annual process to prepare facilities for winter. While some areas shut down early in the month, others will remain accessible until late fall, depending on location and services.
Round Hill Pines Beach Resort was among the first to close on October 1, followed by the Tallac Historic Site on October 5. Additional closures include Badgers Den Campground at Camp Richardson on October 6 and Meeks Bay Resort on October 12.
Several popular campgrounds and beaches, including Fallen Leaf, Nevada Beach, and Pope Beach, are closing by mid-October.
Other affected facilities include Blackwood Canyon, Kaspian Campground, and the Bayview parking area, with restrooms at Kaspian and William Kent also shutting down.
According to an article published by Active NorCal on September 29, the Taylor Creek Visitor Center and its Stream Profile Chamber will close October 26. Seasonal closures at the site mark the end of fall interpretive programming, which draws many visitors earlier in the season.
By November, additional trailheads and recreation areas will close.
On November 15, parking areas at Big Meadow and Eagle Falls, as well as Genoa Peak Road, Kiva Picnic Area, Luther Pass Campground, and the Sand Pit OHV area, will shut down. Facilities at Secret Harbor and Watson Lake Campground are also on the list.
The Sawmill Pond day-use site will close November 20. The final wave of closures comes November 30, when Inspiration Point’s parking area and restrooms shut down for the season.
While many facilities have already closed, some operations ended earlier. Angora Lakes Resort cabins and store, along with the Echo Chalet marina and store, wrapped up operations in September.
