Kings Canyon National Park’s Cedar Grove to Open on May 9 After Rockslide Delays

Kings Canyon National Park’s Cedar Grove (California) is set to open on May 9, Monday. It was initially scheduled to open on April 22, but a major rockslide on a portion of Highway 180 in Sequoia National Forest delayed the opening.

The park warns visitors when approaching the rivers since rocks at the edges of the rivers can be slippery. Most river mortalities were due to visitors unintentionally falling into the river, according to a news release.

PG&E will also go to Cedar Grove this summer to complete a project that started last year. Visitors will experience minimal effects but may see traffic delays of up to 15 minutes in May and June.

Services in Cedar Grove will also not open until later in May, including the visitor center and market.

For information about services and things to do in Cedar Grove, visit their website nps.gov/seki. For updates regarding current road conditions, call the parks’ information line at (559) 565 -3341, press one, and then press one again.
