California State Parks has postponed the reopening of the seasonal campground at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park near Felton until 2026, citing ongoing supply chain disruptions that have delayed vital infrastructure upgrades.
The campground, originally set to reopen Aug. 1 following off-season renovations, will now remain closed through the 2025 camping season, with plans to resume operations on April 1, 2026.
According to State Parks, the delay stems from difficulties sourcing critical supplies needed to complete improvements aimed at enhancing accessibility and safety for visitors.
“We will continue to work diligently with contractors to complete these essential upgrades and appreciate the patience and understanding of all our visitors as we improve the park’s facilities,” Santa Cruz District Superintendent II Scott Sipes said, as reported by Press Banner on June 19.
The campground typically operates each year from April through October.
Work was planned during the off-season to limit impacts to camping reservations, but supply chain setbacks have twice shifted the project timeline.
State Parks has canceled all camping reservations at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park between Aug. 1 and Nov. 1.
Affected guests will receive full refunds automatically and have been notified of the cancellations and reimbursement process.
Guests are encouraged to check parks.ca.gov/HenryCowell for updates. If construction progresses ahead of schedule, visitors will be notified by email and given priority booking opportunities.
The upgrades underway include installing ADA-compliant fixtures, grab bars, wider doorways, slip-resistant flooring, and new signage to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards throughout restrooms and showers.
Additional improvements feature accessible pathways, seating, and drinking fountains at the park’s campfire center, ensuring guests with disabilities have safer and easier access to amenities.
