California State Parks announced a series of upgrades to its reservation system, making it easier for visitors to find and book campsites directly through the agency’s main website.
The changes aim to improve user experience and expand access to some of the state’s most popular campgrounds.
Previously, campground reservations were only available through the state’s official booking platform, ReserveCalifornia.com.
With the new integration, users visiting Parks.ca.gov can now view real-time campsite availability and access reservation links without needing to navigate to a separate site.
“California’s state parks are home to some of the world’s best campgrounds, and we want to make it as easy as possible to find your perfect campsite,” State Parks Director Armando Quintero said in a press release.
“Whether you prefer camping among the redwoods, steps away from the ocean or high up in the mountains, your next state parks adventure is just a few clicks away,” Quintero added.
The updated website now allows visitors to simultaneously browse trip planning resources, including information about nearby campgrounds, park amenities, and updated availability.
In addition to the digital upgrades, the department is expanding its reservation drawing program to three more state parks.
The system, which was first introduced at Mount Tamalpais State Park, allows campers to enter free drawings for high-demand sites, offering a fairer distribution process.
Malibu Creek State Park will begin offering reservation drawings this month. Morro Bay State Park and McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park will follow later this summer, according to officials.
Since launching in 2023, the reservation drawings have received over 100,000 entries for the Steep Ravine Cabins at Mount Tamalpais, underscoring the demand for limited-capacity sites at peak locations. The drawing system was designed to reduce the advantage of faster internet connections and provide equal access for all users.
