Dam Quarry Campground Closes Temporarily for Road and Park Upgrades

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has temporarily closed Dam Quarry Campground (Arkansas) and the tailwater boat ramp on Norfork Lake as park improvement work gets underway.

According to a press release, the closure, which began October 7, will continue through October 19, to allow crews to complete major road paving and other infrastructure upgrades.

The temporary shutdown is necessary to ensure the safety of workers and visitors while construction and maintenance activities take place. The improvements aim to enhance access and extend the long-term functionality of the popular recreation site.

“The closures are necessary to safely complete the scope of work and improve long-term functionality of the parks. The closure dates will be adjusted, and the park will reopen early if the work is completed ahead of schedule,” the campground indicates in a Facebook post

“USACE officials regret the inconvenience but emphasize that the work will enhance safety and improve the visitor experience,” the campground adds.

In addition to the roadwork, prescribed burns managed by trained personnel will take place during the closure. “During the closure, rangers will also be conducting prescribed burns in the park to restore the native grass ecosystems,” the announcement adds.

Nestled along the banks of the North Fork River and Dry Run Creek, Dam Quarry Campground offers visitors views of the forested hills and hollows of the Ozarks.

The river feeds into the 22,000-acre Norfork Lake, located just upstream from the campground, creating a setting that attracts outdoor enthusiasts throughout the year.

Recreation opportunities abound, with fishing ranking as the most popular activity in the lower river area. Visitors also enjoy kayaking, birding, and hiking along the surrounding trails.

The campground features a variety of recreation sites, including standard and group electric areas, as well as options for both day use and overnight stays.
