T.K. Jones Campground Set to Temporarily Close Sept. 21 for Upgrades

The Bureau of Land Management’s Yuma Field Office in Arizona announced that the T.K. Jones Campground in Imperial County, California, is set to temporarily close for facility paving upgrades.

The closure will take effect at 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 21 and remain in place through Oct. 9, unless work is completed earlier.

The temporary closure is intended to ensure public safety while contractors complete planned maintenance.

According to a press release, the project includes site preparation, asphalt paving, pavement sealing, striping, and curb painting to improve the campground’s designated loop and parking spurs.

Access to the campground and all associated facilities will be prohibited during the closure. The restriction will apply to all visitors until the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) determines the site is ready to reopen.

Located on the backwaters of the Colorado River just above Imperial Dam, the T.K. Jones Campground and Boat Launch feature about 125 RV sites along with dispersed tent camping spaces. The site is a popular recreation area for both local residents and regional visitors.

The location includes a paved boat launch with docks, a car-top canoe and kayak launch area, and a dedicated day-use section. Other facilities consist of four restrooms with flush toilets and showers, a potable water station, trash and gray water receptacles, picnic tables, barbecue grills, and paved day-use and boat trailer parking.

Outdoor activities around the campground include off-highway vehicle riding, biking, and hiking. However, off-highway vehicles are not permitted within the campground itself, according to agency rules.

Day-use and overnight stays at the site typically require a fee. Payments may be made at self-registration stations located on-site or at the BLM Yuma Field Office. Annual permits are also available for purchase from the field office or on-site camp hosts.

Discounts may apply under federal programs such as America the Beautiful, Golden Age, and Golden Access, depending on program terms.

Camping and occupancy are limited to 14 days within any 28-day period with a valid permit. Officials also remind visitors that no lifeguards are on duty and that boating is restricted to 5 mph in Xanyō Xamshré, with the “No Wake Zone” ending at the Colorado River.

Accessibility features at the campground include flush toilets, paved walkways and sidewalks, and an accessible path leading to Senator Wash Reservoir. Paved parking for day use and boat trailers is also available.
