Hodges and Kings Acquire Willcox/Cochise AZ KOA Holiday, Plan Major Upgrades

Kampgrounds of America (KOA) has announced that Gerry and Clarissa Hodges, along with Jeremy and Irene King, have completed the acquisition of the Willcox/Cochise AZ KOA.

The transfer of ownership brings together two families with extensive experience in hospitality and outdoor recreation.

The Hodges, former owners of the Santa Fe KOA Holiday in New Mexico, and the Kings, who have a longstanding background in hospitality services, were drawn to Willcox for both personal and business reasons.

Their decision was influenced by proximity to family in Goodyear, Arizona, as well as the campground’s location along Interstate 10, a key route for travelers across the Southwest.

Located at Exit 340 off I-10, the Willcox/Cochise AZ KOA Holiday serves as a convenient stopover for RV travelers, snowbirds, and visitors exploring southeastern Arizona.

The property offers easy access to historic Tombstone, Chiricahua National Monument, and the region’s growing wine country.

“We were inspired to acquire this KOA campground because of its location and the opportunity to be closer to our home and family in Arizona,” said Gerry Hodges, one of the new owners.

“We’re excited to partner with local organizations and businesses to help the city of Willcox grow as we continue to upgrade and expand the park,” Hodges added.

The campground currently features a range of amenities, including the Willcox Roadrunner Kafe, a year-round pool and hot tub, state-of-the-art Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, and a KampK9 dog park.

Guests also have access to a camp store and other services designed to meet the needs of both short-term and extended-stay campers.

Looking ahead, the new ownership group has plans for significant upgrades. Future additions include nearly 30 new long-rig RV sites, deluxe patio sites, paw pen sites, a new playground, and a pickleball court.

Plans also call for a horse stall area to accommodate guests attending local rodeo events.

The economic impact of campgrounds like the Willcox/Cochise AZ KOA Holiday extends beyond the property itself.

According to KOA’s 2024 Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, campers contributed $61 billion to local economies last year, with average daily spending estimated at $200 per camper.

Local communities also benefit as travelers seek cultural experiences, with 27% of campers reporting interest in visiting small towns and an equal percentage drawn to food tourism.
