Alabama Parks Opens Campgrounds to Offer Shelter for Hurricane Evacuees

As Hurricane Milton approaches Florida’s coastline, thousands of residents are evacuating for safety. The mass evacuation has led to increased traffic and strain on local accommodations. In response, Alabama State Parks opens campgrounds to Floridians seeking refuge from the storm.

“The Alabama State Parks Division is prepared to receive guests impacted by Hurricane Milton. We know that many times on an evacuation route, hotel capacity can fill up quickly – and this is another viable option,” the park said in a Facebook post.

According to the park, Alabama’s 21 state parks are ready to assist visitors in planning their stay, offering options for camping, cabin, or lodge reservations. Guests are encouraged to make park bookings that best meet their needs. For convenient online reservations, visitors can access reserve.alapark.com. Additionally, for any further inquiries, the park can be reached at 1-800-Alapark.

During inclement weather, guests are advised to remain connected with various trusted local news sources for weather alerts, updates, and warnings.

The Facebook post received 17,000 shares, and numerous individuals commended Alabama Parks for its efforts to support residents impacted by the hurricane.

Most Alabama State Parks feature a mix of modern campsites and primitive camping options. With modern bathhouses and spacious camping pads,  numerous campgrounds provide senior discounts, welcome pets, and include onsite picnic tables and grills and plenty of parking for visitors.
