Alabama Invites Public Feedback on 2026 Outdoor Recreation Plan

The State of Alabama is asking residents to weigh in on its Draft 2026 Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP), a long-term guide for outdoor recreation development, access, and conservation across the state.

According to an article FOX54, the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) announced that the draft plan is now open for public review and comment and is encouraging Alabamians to share their ideas, concerns, and suggestions to shape the state’s approach to parks, trails, rivers, and other outdoor facilities.

The SCORP functions as Alabama’s strategic framework for managing outdoor recreation resources and is required for the state to remain eligible for federal Land and Water Conservation Fund grants.

It also offers guidance for projects funded through the Recreational Trails Program, which helps develop and maintain trails across the state.

The public comment period will run from Oct. 27 through Nov. 26, 2025, with all comments due by 5 p.m. on Nov. 26.

Residents can review the draft plan online and submit feedback via email to [email protected].

Comment submissions should include “Draft 2026 Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan” in the subject line.

ADECA said public input will help ensure that Alabama’s outdoor spaces meet the evolving needs of residents and visitors, from state parks and local trails to rivers and recreational facilities.

To review the draft plan, visit the ADECA website. This public feedback influences the outdoor recreation industry by shaping future investments in parks, trails, and recreation areas.
