A new co-financing program has been launched in the Stavropol Territory to support the development of campsites, providing business owners in the region with access to government subsidies covering up to 60% of project costs.

The initiative, implemented as part of Russia’s national project “Tourism and Hospitality,” aims to expand and enhance outdoor accommodation infrastructure to meet growing demand from ecotourists.

The funding program is open to both the construction of new campsites and improvements to existing ones.

According to the Ministry of Tourism of the Stavropol Territory, detailed terms and eligibility requirements are available on the regional tourism ministry’s website.

The state’s backing comes at a time of rapid growth in ecotourism across Russia. Data from the Federal Reserve Center indicates that from 2020 to 2023, the number of ecotourists in the country more than doubled, rising from 6.7 million to 14 million.

This surge reflects increasing interest in travel experiences that prioritize environmental preservation and connection with natural surroundings.

The Ministry of Tourism notes that some of the most visited destinations for nature-oriented travelers in the Stavropol region include the Novotroitskoye Reservoir in the Izobilnensky District, the towns of Mineralnye Vody and Pyatigorsk, and the village of Verblyudogorka in the Foothill District.

These areas are recognized for their natural landscapes and ecological value, according to News of Stavropol and the Stavropol Territory.

Russia currently designates around 12% of its territory as protected natural areas of federal or regional significance, which positions the country as a notable destination for sustainable tourism.

For business owners in the outdoor hospitality industry, the co-financing initiative presents an opportunity to align with national tourism development goals while tapping into the increasing flow of eco-conscious travelers.

By subsidizing capital costs, the program may lower the barrier to entry for small and medium-sized businesses seeking to expand into or improve their presence in the camping and ecotourism sector.

Business owners are encouraged to monitor application timelines and ensure their proposals meet environmental and regulatory guidelines to maximize their chances of securing support.
