The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation unveiled the completion of a $3 million wastewater infrastructure upgrade at Mills-Norrie State Park’s campground.

The enhancements replaced two outdated absorption fields with a new septic absorption field, addressing long-standing wastewater concerns at the site.

The upgrade also included the installation of new sanitary and effluent sewer mains, along with pump stations designed to collect and convey wastewater from cabins, restrooms, and a shower facility.

The infrastructure overhaul is part of a broader initiative to modernize campground amenities across the state park system. The new system has been designed to support potential future expansions and additional infrastructure needs.

As part of the project, the park’s recreational vehicle dump station was also expanded and modernized to improve access and service efficiency for RV users.

According to an article published by Daily Freeman on August 5, State Parks Commissioner Pro Tempore Randy Simons emphasized the importance of infrastructure upgrades for overall park operations.

“Whether you’re kayaking, hiking, or camping, every New Yorker deserves a clean, comfortable, and enjoyable experience in our state parks,” Simons said.

Simons added that the improvements at Mills-Norrie reflect a commitment to environmental responsibility, particularly in preserving water quality in the Hudson River.

“This project not only enhances the visitor experience at Mills-Norrie but also reflects our commitment to being mindful stewards of the nearby Hudson River,” he said.

The Mills-Norrie State Park campground, located within Hudson River-adjacent parkland, is a popular destination for campers, hikers, and outdoor recreation enthusiasts from across the region.

The park also offers a wide range of recreational opportunities in a wooded setting with views of the Hudson River, making it a popular destination for visitors of all ages. The park features 44 tent sites and 10 rental cabins, along with accommodations for recreational vehicles, though no hook-up facilities are available.

Campers have convenient access to the river through the Norrie Marina and the Norrie Environmental Center. Restrooms and shower facilities are located within walking distance of the campsites.
