Saskatchewan Provincial Parks Set to Open May 16 With New Accommodations and Programs

Saskatchewan’s provincial parks are set to open for the 2025 camping season on Friday, May 16, with a variety of new offerings aimed at enhancing the visitor experience.

Park operators are introducing new accommodations, programs, and recreational opportunities across the province in an effort to draw more guests and provide diverse outdoor experiences.

Among this year’s additions are expanded glamping options at several parks. Blackstrap Provincial Park will feature new glamping domes, with similar units planned to open at Echo Valley later in the season.

Tipi-style cabins will be introduced at Buffalo Pound, while traditional tipis are expected at Meadow Lake.

Infrastructure improvements are also part of the 2025 updates, according to a report by Discover Moose Jaw

Elbow Harbour Recreation Site on Lake Diefenbaker has added more marina slips for boaters, and a new Trailhead Café is scheduled to open on May 15 at the Buffalo Pound Visitor Centre, providing a food and beverage option for park visitors.

Programming for the summer includes a full schedule of guided hikes, paddle programs, live music, and cultural events.

New highlights include Festival in the Forest at Meadow Lake, Prairie Day at Buffalo Pound, and guided hiking events such as Hike the Heights at Cypress Hills and Into the Pines at Candle Lake.

Long-standing programs such as SaskExpress and Summer Cinema are also returning, continuing to draw repeat visitors.

“We are excited to welcome visitors for another incredible season in our beautiful provincial parks,” said Alana Ross, Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport.

“Whether you want adventure, relaxation, or time with family and friends, our parks create lasting memories while highlighting the beauty of Saskatchewan’s natural environment.”

To support educational engagement, the province has refreshed its Discovery Packs for the 2025 season. These self-guided kits offer themes such as “Soil Scientist” and “Marvelous Mammals,” focusing on conservation, wildlife, and ecological education.

All park events and activities are included with a valid Park Entry Permit, and pre-registration for certain programs is available at saskparks.com under the “Things to Do” section.

Park authorities also remind guests to stay informed on fire bans or other safety-related advisories before arriving.

For campground and park operators in the outdoor hospitality sector, Saskatchewan’s evolving park programming and infrastructure provide a benchmark for enhancing guest experiences.

The introduction of alternative accommodations such as glamping domes and tipis reflects growing consumer interest in unique outdoor stays.

Additionally, integrating cultural and educational components into park programming can help operators extend visitor stays and increase engagement.

These developments may inspire private operators to diversify their offerings in response to shifting guest expectations and seasonal travel trends.
