San Angelo State Park has reopened several of its popular areas after recent flooding forced a temporary closure, according to an announcement from Texas Parks and Wildlife.
As of this week, most trails and select campgrounds are accessible to the public while cleanup and safety efforts continue in other parts of the park.
According to an article published by San Angelo Live on July 17, the park’s south side, which includes Red Arroyo, Isabel Harte, and Lakeview Day-use areas, is now open to visitors.
The Red Arroyo Camping Area at San Angelo State Park offers 40 campsites with electricity, each accommodating up to eight people. Located on the south shore of the lake near town, these sites include picnic tables, outdoor grills, fire rings, water hookups, shade shelters, and 30/50 amp electrical service.
However, some sections remain closed due to unsafe conditions. The Bald Eagle and North Concho Campgrounds are still off-limits, along with the Shady Trail, North Scenic Loop Trail, and Lower Ghost Camp Trail.
The Bald Eagle Camping Area at San Angelo State Park serves as an alternative site for equestrians when the North Concho Campground is full.
While no pens or tethers are provided, visitors are permitted to bring portable pens for their horses. Each site is equipped with 30/50 amp electrical service, with restrooms and showers located nearby.
Riverbend Campgrounds have also resumed operations, and most trails have been cleared for public use.
Other camping areas include the River Bend Camping Area at San Angelo State Park. The area offers 10 tent-only campsites with water access, each accommodating up to eight people.
These primitive sites are accessible by foot, horseback, bike, or vehicle, with hiking distances ranging from three to five miles. RVs are not permitted. Half of the sites are available by reservation, while the remaining are first-come, first-served.
