OHI has announced the successful completion of three major federal advocacy initiatives, securing permanent tax benefits and safeguarding public lands vital to the outdoor hospitality industry.

The victories follow years of coordinated legislative engagement led by OHI’s Government Affairs team and widespread support from its membership base.

The legislative wins include the permanent extension of the 20% Qualified Business Income (QBI) deduction, a permanent estate tax exemption increase, and the defeat of a proposal that would have led to the sale of millions of acres of public land.

Each of these outcomes addresses long-standing challenges faced by small business owners in the RV park and campground sector.

“We’re deeply grateful to every OHI member who joined us on Capitol Hill, wrote letters, shared their stories, or took action remotely,” said David Basler, OHI’s chief strategy officer and SVP of government affairs.

“These wins belong to all of us, and they show what we can accomplish when we speak with one voice. Together, we are shaping a stronger, more sustainable future for outdoor hospitality,” Basler added.

The QBI provision, part of the Main Street Tax Certainty Act, was championed by Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) and delivers a permanent 20% deduction on qualified business income.

The measure is expected to lower taxable income and encourage reinvestment and growth by enabling the immediate deduction of certain equipment and property purchases.

In addition, Congress passed legislation making the estate tax exemption permanent at $15 million for individuals and $30 million for couples. This change is intended to support business continuity for family-owned operations, reducing the risk that generational businesses will face burdensome tax liabilities during succession.

OHI also played a critical role in stopping a federal proposal that would have opened 2 to 3 million acres of public land for sale across 11 Western states. The association emphasized the economic and operational importance of protected public lands to the more than 75% of privately owned outdoor hospitality businesses located in nearby gateway communities.

“These legislative wins are the result of a united effort,” OHI noted in a statement. “Member engagement—from Capitol Hill visits to virtual letter-writing campaigns—demonstrated the collective strength of the outdoor hospitality community.”
