North Carolina State Parks Announce Increase in Campsite and Reservoir Entrance Fees

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources’ Division of Parks and Recreation has announced that, effective May 1, reservation fees for campgrounds and vehicle entrance fees at reservoir state recreation areas will increase across the state parks system.

This adjustment marks the first significant change in fees for state park facilities since 2019, although the majority of state parks will continue to offer free access for day-use throughout the year.

According to the announcement, the fee changes will specifically affect entrance fees at reservoir state recreation areas during their peak season, most camping rates, and some boat slip rentals at Carolina Beach State Park, while picnic shelter reservation fees, equipment rentals, and swim passes will remain unchanged.

Beginning May 1, the cost for tent campsites will range from $20 to $30, and RV campsites equipped with full hookups (electric, water, and sewer) will be priced at $45; however, campsite reservations made before 11:59 p.m. on April 30 will not be subject to these new rates.

The per-vehicle entrance fee for Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, and Kerr Lake state recreation areas, which is charged on weekends in April, May, and September, and daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day, will increase to $10, while senior citizens (62 years or older), veterans, and active-duty military will still receive a discounted rate of $5 per vehicle.

Additionally, the prices for the 2026 State Parks Annual Pass will also increase, with the Annual Pass for Reservoirs costing $70, the general Annual Pass priced at $100, and the Annual Pass with Four-Wheel-Drive Beach Access set at $200.

Beyond these changes, transient and monthly boat slip rentals at the Carolina Beach State Park marina are also set to increase starting on July 1.

The Division of Parks and Recreation stated that these increases are a reflection of market adjustments and the rising costs associated with maintaining these facilities.

A comprehensive list of all fee changes is available on the ncparks.gov/fees website.

These adjustments in pricing could influence travel plans and the affordability of outdoor experiences, potentially affecting visitation rates and revenue streams for the parks. Understanding these changes allows outdoor enthusiasts and businesses that cater to them to plan accordingly for future trips and budget considerations within the state’s popular natural areas.
