Construction is underway to build a campground next to the Love’s Travel Stop in Mosheim. The owners have big plans and are excited about the 38.5-acre property, a report said.
Friday’s groundbreaking ceremony took place at 12300 Lonesome Pine Trail, in preparation for the $1M project.
Darrin Waldkoetter and Jennifer Waldkoetter announced that in addition to the 77 spots for RVs, the Mammoth Ridge Campground will have a 4-acre lake, which can be used for boating, fishing, and swimming. There will also be a dog park and country store.
Jennifer stated that the lake will have a sandy beach. “Kids will be able to paddleboard and we will rent small fishing and paddle boats.”
Monday saw the start of work to build the lake. There will be a walking path around it. Steve Whittenburg works with the Waldkoetters as the chief excavator.
In the report, Jennifer stated that the country store will be situated next to the lake and will sell basic necessities, ice, and souvenirs. It will also host family-friendly activities.
Darrin also stated that the porch will have a 12-by-61 foot area with swings and a place to relax. They plan to host bingo nights and other games on the porch.
Darrin stated that plans include the construction of a waterslide into the lake, but this may be added in the future. Plans call for a smaller number of primitive campsites in the future.
This development took over a year to complete.
The Waldkoetters said they want Mammoth Ridge to be kid-and-family-friendly and that they hope to attract both tourists and locals, the report mentioned.
Darrin and Jennifer expect to hire 8-10 employees, including Daniel Wincek (Park Manager), a Wisconsin native who has previously worked for Darrin at Walmart Distribution.
Darrin said that RV spots will offer full service with wifi, TV, electricity, water, and septic hookups.
According to the Waldkoetters, if everything goes according to plan, Mammoth Ridge will be open in 2022. A grand opening will take place later in the spring, the report said.
