Hipcamp, a San Francisco-based camping platform, has announced a major expansion that more than doubles its campsite listings across the United States.
The update, revealed May 20, aims to centralize bookings for public campgrounds, private RV parks, and unique outdoor stays such as farms and ranches in a single mobile app.
The company says the expansion brings its total inventory to over 500,000 sites, positioning Hipcamp as a comprehensive resource for campers navigating a fragmented digital landscape.
The move is designed to drive business to campground operators and simplify trip planning for consumers.
“For too long, campers have faced a maze of disconnected websites just to plan a simple weekend outdoors,” Alyssa Ravasio, CEO and founder of Hipcamp, said in a press release.
“By bringing more camping experiences together, we’re making it easier for people to get outside while supporting the campgrounds, RV parks, and landowners who are the backbone of the outdoor economy,” Ravasio added.
The new inventory includes state parks, established RV resorts, and agritourism locations such as working blueberry farms.
The announcement comes as the camping industry adapts to significant changes in demand. U.S. camping participation has grown 68% in the past decade, but many new campers report frustrations, including overcrowded sites and limited booking availability.
According to Hipcamp, 56% of campers say they have difficulty finding open sites due to capacity issues.
As public park closures affect availability nationwide this summer, Hipcamp aims to offer an alternative by making it easier for users to find private and lesser-known options through one platform. The app now allows discovery and booking of both high-demand locations and underutilized spaces in a unified interface.
“The reality is there are so many great places to camp in America, but historically, it’s been way too hard for so many people—especially new young campers who didn’t have the benefit of growing up camping—to find them,” Ravasio said. “And right now, people are discouraged by how hard it is to book campsites.”
In addition to more listings, the platform offers tools for operators such as verified status for increased visibility, analytics, and guest communication features. These tools are intended to help businesses boost bookings and better manage expectations during the busy season.
