Three caravan and camping parks in Sutherland, Scotland, have received recognition in the 2025 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards, an annual program based on the quality and quantity of traveler reviews posted over a 12-month period.
Dornoch Caravan and Camping Park, Clachtoll Beach Campsite in Lochinver, and North Coast Touring Park in Melvich were all ranked among the top 10% of listings worldwide on the TripAdvisor platform.
These three parks are members of the recently established Highland Caravan and Campsites Association, a regional group that represents camping and caravan businesses across the Highlands.
In addition to the Sutherland-based sites, three other association members in northern Scotland—Sands Caravan and Camping Park in Gairloch, Shieldaig Camping and Cabins, and Red Squirrel Campsite in Ballachulish—also received accolades in this year’s awards.
According to a report by The Northern Times, the Travellers’ Choice Awards identify the highest-rated destinations, accommodations, restaurants, and experiences globally, based solely on reviews submitted by users.
Lynn Redfern, secretary of the Highland Caravan and Campsites Association, acknowledged the collective recognition, stating:
“We are so proud that so many of our campsites have been recognised for all their hard work. Campsites are an important part of the tourism industry, with 26 per cent of overnight visitors to the Highlands staying in a caravan, motorhome or tent.”
For operators in the outdoor hospitality sector, such awards offer more than just recognition—they can serve as powerful marketing tools, reinforcing customer trust and enhancing visibility across global travel platforms.
Positive reviews often influence travel planning decisions, particularly in high-traffic tourist regions like the Scottish Highlands, where competition for seasonal tourism is significant.
From an operational standpoint, these accolades can also reflect a business’s sustained commitment to guest satisfaction and quality service, both of which are increasingly vital in an industry shaped by consumer feedback and online reputation.
Darren Redfern of Dornoch Caravan and Camping Park noted the importance of customer input in achieving the award, saying:
“We are delighted to be in the top 10 per cent of Tripadvisor for the fifth year in a row. We would like to thank all our customers for taking the time to leave us a review and help out their fellow travellers.”
Similarly, Tom Lockhead from Clachtoll Beach Campsite said:
“It is great to be recognised so early in the season, and we really appreciate our guests taking the time to review the campsite. These reviews are a genuine reflection of the hard work and effort that has been put in to achieve this award for the 5th year running.”
TripAdvisor president Kristen Dalton also congratulated the 2025 award recipients.
“Ranking among the top percentage of businesses globally means you have made such a memorable impact on your visitors that many of them took the time to go online and leave a glowing review about their experience. We hope this recognition continues to drive business to you in 2025 and beyond.”
The 2025 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards were announced in May, just ahead of the peak summer tourism season.
