Expansion Of Campground In Manitoba Municipality Approved

A campsite in Manitoba’s Grunthal municipality is set to get bigger as its proposed expansion has been given the green light, a report said.

Daniel Fehr, the owner of Green Valley RV and Cabins, said the camp has been operating with 62 sites. The sites comprise around 50 electrical sites, which include sewer and water services. They also have four cabins.

Fehr obtained the required approvals from the Rural Municipality of Hanover to expand the camp by 119 additional sites in the last month.

Hanover Planner Jeremy Neufeld told Council that the campground has only been operational for a season, but there were no complaints from the public.

Fehr says that campers seemed to take pleasure in the beach, the lake, and the area’s openness while they were there this summer. He says that they’re full on the peak weekends.

The owner also said that they were considering additional sites, but not 119. However, after learning about the amount it would cost to have Manitoba Hydro bring electricity, Fehr says they decided to dream for 119 to spread out the cost. Fehr says the additional revenue generated by these sites could aid in covering the costs of staffing.

As of this moment, the campground continues to operate as a seasonal business. Fehr also suggests that it would be beneficial to provide a couple of cabins to people who want to enjoy winter activities. Whether it’s cabins or sites, Fehr explains they want to build based on the need.

“I’m not interested in going way overboard, but we want to kind of first take care of what we have,” he explains. “We’ll see what happens in the future and which direction we will go.”

Fehr says he is planning to begin cutting some brush and creating roads in the winter. He also said they would like to be selective in the things they cut out, ensuring that each property is protected by a buffer zone that provides privacy.
