A proposal to expand Butterswood Lakes, a holiday park and fishery located off Soff Lane near Goxhill, has been submitted to North Lincolnshire Council.
The application seeks permission to construct up to ten holiday lodges and four glamping pods on the mixed-use site, which currently offers caravan and motorhome pitches, tent camping, residential units, and fishing facilities.
The developers state that the expansion is intended to strengthen the long-term viability of the site.
“The proposal will allow the existing business to expand ensuring the future prosperity and vitality of this increasingly popular North Lincolnshire site,” the application document reads.
The proposed additions include seasonally constructed, high-quality lodges and glamping pods described as “shepherd huts for families and couples alike.”
If approved, the development would double the site’s full-time equivalent staffing from four to eight employees, according to GrimsbyLive.
The application emphasizes that the owners have substantial experience in managing both holiday parks and fisheries and have based their expansion strategy on customer feedback and demand.
“From their experience and customer enquiries, they are aware that their next stage in their business plan is to offer choice and diversification in the accommodation,” the document notes.
The expansion would also include 25 additional parking spaces to accommodate increased visitor numbers.
Although Butterswood Lakes has a Goxhill postal address, it is located within walking distance—approximately 15 minutes—of Thornton Abbey railway station, enhancing accessibility for tourists arriving by public transportation.
For business owners in the outdoor hospitality sector, this proposal reflects a broader trend toward diversifying accommodations to appeal to a wider range of travelers. Incorporating glamping options and higher-end lodges is a common strategy to increase occupancy rates, extend the season, and improve revenue streams.
Sites that offer multiple lodging formats may also be better positioned to adapt to shifting travel preferences, including increased demand for unique, nature-based experiences with comfortable amenities.
The planning application is currently under review by North Lincolnshire Council. No timeline for a decision has yet been announced.
