Eutierra Retreats Submits Application for Wellness-Focused Glamping Site in North East Derbyshire

A proposed glamping development in North East Derbyshire could represent a strategic opportunity for growth in the regional outdoor hospitality sector, as planning permission is being sought for six shepherd huts on land near Wingerworth.

Submitted to the North East Derbyshire District Council, the application outlines the establishment of a small-scale, year-round glamping retreat that emphasizes wellness and low-impact tourism.

According to documents submitted by Glampitect on behalf of Eutierra Retreats, the site would be located east of Wood Cottage on Harper Hill.

The plans include external decking for each hut, grass-grid tracks and footpaths, minor landscaping, and the addition of a wildlife pond, all aimed at preserving the natural character of the surroundings.

While the site borders the Green Belt and is adjacent to a local wildlife area, the development seeks to integrate into the landscape with energy-efficient accommodations constructed using timber cladding and corrugated metal roofs, according to the Derbyshire Times.

From a commercial perspective, the proposal anticipates 70% occupancy rates, which could contribute approximately £4.02 million to the local economy over a decade.

While this figure reflects the broader impact of visitor spending in the area—including in nearby Chesterfield, where 147 attractions are listed on TripAdvisor—the figures underscore the growing economic potential of niche tourism segments like glamping.

For industry stakeholders, the proposed project highlights several notable trends in guest preferences, particularly the demand for adult-only, wellness-focused accommodations.

Eutierra Retreats plans to market the site as a peaceful retreat catering to couples seeking rest and rejuvenation.

Ancillary experiences, such as forest bathing, yoga, massage, and artisan workshops, are positioned to create partnerships with local service providers, thereby expanding the site’s value proposition while supporting the regional economy.

For outdoor hospitality operators and investors, the application signals continued interest in curated, experiential lodging in rural areas that balance sustainability, wellness, and economic viability.

If approved, the Wingerworth project could serve as a case study in leveraging small-scale, purpose-driven development to tap into evolving consumer preferences and strengthen community-based tourism networks.
