WWT Slimbridge Introduces Eco-Glamping with Launch of Warblers’ Meadow

WWT Slimbridge has launched Warblers’ Meadow, a new glamping accommodation offering located within its wetland reserve in Gloucestershire.

The development consists of five shepherd’s huts situated in a secluded area of the site, each with views of private ponds and the surrounding wetland. While designed for leisure visitors, the introduction of this boutique offering carries implications for business operators in the outdoor hospitality and glamping sectors.

According to a report by The Phoenix Newspaper, the huts, named after local songbird species, aim to provide an immersive, nature-based stay experience.

Each unit includes a kitchenette, private bathroom, and a deck, with the Reed Warbler hut specifically designed to improve accessibility for guests with reduced mobility.

The accommodation is screen-free, encouraging guests to engage with the natural environment and participate in the site’s various activities, including birdwatching tours, guided nature walks, and canoeing excursions.

“This is a truly special place to immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the natural world,” said Mark Simpson, WWT Slimbridge General Manager. “Warblers’ Meadow is unlike anywhere else, offering a peaceful and relaxing haven amongst our beautiful wetlands.”

From an industry perspective, WWT Slimbridge’s entry into boutique glamping underscores the growing integration of conservation-based tourism with outdoor accommodation experiences.

The initiative not only diversifies the revenue model for conservation organizations but also sets a precedent for landowners and tourism operators considering eco-friendly expansion strategies.

With access to exclusive tours and educational experiences, Warblers’ Meadow merges environmental engagement with hospitality—offering a blueprint that balances guest experience with mission-driven programming.

“This is a brilliant opportunity to not only spend quality time with loved ones but to experience and learn more about wetland nature and the amazing birds and wildlife that call this place home,” Simpson added.

Operators in the glamping and outdoor hospitality sectors may look to Slimbridge’s model as a case study in how to position natural assets as a value-add for experiential accommodation.

It also reflects the potential for partnership opportunities between conservation groups and private sector hospitality providers, especially in locations with unique ecological offerings.
