UK Glamping Pods Proposal Approved, Hot Tubs Banned

Due to noise concerns, hot tubs have been banned from the holiday glamping pod proposal by Walworth Castle Hotel (United Kingdom).

According to a report, the hotel was granted permission to construct the pods in the area of an old falconry center, despite opposition from a local businessman who called the project an ill-advised development.

However, the unusual hot tub condition was added at Darlington Borough Council’s planning committee meeting.

Councilor Steven Tait said that glamping pods are very popular, and adding hot tubs outside would create more noise as people get drunk in them.

There was no mention of hot tubs in the Walworth Castle Hotel’s planning application to build six pods within the Grade I listed castle’s grounds.

However, Councilor Tait asked whether there was any plan for hot tubs and suggested a condition specific to hot tubs not included in detailed plans.

Planning development Manager David Coates said the hotel was previously attempting to build a bigger chalet-type development.

This was unacceptable and received objections from Historic England and the council’s conservation officer.

After discussions, the plans were modified into more compact pods with improved landscaping.

The councilors voted in favor of the plan, but with some conditions.

One of them is that the precise specifications of the pods to be approved in writing must not contain external paraphernalia, including hot tubs.
